Great Resource
I am an elder in a Presbyterian church, using my sabbatical break to look at several resources I might use for the Sunday school classes I frequently teach. I'm always looking for material for our New Member class, and Sean Michael Lucas's PRESBYTERIANISM does a fine job of explaining the essentials for those seeking to join the church. Lucas looks at Presbyterianism through the lens of the trinity: how God's sovereign rule shapes our world, how Christ's kingly rule shapes our church, and how the Holy Spirit uses the ordinary to shape our lives.
This method also provides avenues into the inevitable questions that arise: the difference between justification and sanctification, election, the role and authority of elders and deacons, church discipline, baptism, and much more.
I plan to refer back to this valuable book when I return to elder duty, but in the meantime, it's also a great book for individual use as well, especially for those who want to know "What's Presbyterianism all about?" Highly recommended!
