Shockingly Outstanding
This book is remarkably helpful and powerful, far better than I expected. I will admit, it's not what I thought. I thought it'd be more basic manly tips on life (e.g., show up to work on time, go to bed early, don't cheat on your homework, etc.). But what it is is infinitely better. It's basic theology and discipleship from a Reformed/experiential perspective written for teenage boys. The prose is engaging, easy-to-read, and convicting and recognizes the idols appealing to today's youth (e.g., video games, pornography, etc.). The 30 short chapters are designed to be read throughout one month and contain Bible exposition, interesting examples especially from history, convicting quotes, and practical applications. I intend to have my teenage sons work through the book this summer and am considering purchasing copies for all the teen guys in my congregation. I wish somebody had walked me through this material when I was 16. It would have saved me from a lot of shame and regret. Buy a case of these and give them out to every teenage guy you know!
