Only What's Done for Christ Will Last

Only What's Done for Christ Will Last

Posted by David Woollin on 5th Apr 2024

How much could you tell me about your great-grandparents? It is a humbling reality that just two or three generations removed, very few people will remember much about us. The truth is that while earthly things fade over time, the ripples of godly influence continue.

Despite his fame and success as a missionary and sports star, C. T. Studd wrote this startling refrain: ‘Only one life, 'twill soon be past, Only what's done for Christ will last. As believers, we have a very different perspective from the world. We know our God has a perfect plan, and nothing is outside of His design and control. We know that the impact of a faithful life lived in prayerful service to God will only be fully grasped in eternity. We know that no life is insignificant.

This eternal perspective must motivate us to use our gifts and God-given resources now for the eternal benefit of future generations. Indeed, these truths are proven not only across generations (Joel 1:3) but across nations today (Mark 16:15) as God providentially works to bring people to Himself and strengthen the saints.

Indeed, we will not know all the ways that our labors bring God glory until we reach heaven. Yet, alongside this longer-term perspective, God kindly gives us glimpses of the fruitfulness of our service even while we are still here.

Here at RHB, we can testify that we receive those sweet moments from God each day as you tell us how God is using the resources we produce, with your help, to bless sinners and saints around the world.
