Caleb never really wanted to be a shepherd. But when he rescued a newborn lamb from a tangle of thorns and was given it as his own, his feelings began to change. As the lamb grew, Caleb came to feel a special affection for it. In the end, he owed his life to the lamb.

Author

Helen Santos began writing when she was five years old. She had her first book published when she was still a teenager, in the 1950's. Since then, she has had about thirty books published, primarily for children.

I absolutely loved this book. It grabbed me from the beginning. There were moments of excitement, concern, anticipation, and surprise. The lessons woven throughout the story makes you take a hard look at your own walk with the Lord.
The book is an easy read and appropriate for elementary children. It would make a great book for reading WITH your children and discussing the different aspects of the story.
I enjoyed the book so much I shared it with our 2nd-5th grade Sunday School class.
