This is a lovely, superbly written devotional. It absolutely exceeded my expectations.

New to reformed theology, but after examining why young adults leave their faith in my faith tradition, I believe this was lacking in our discipleship. By God’s grace, my parents, grandparents & my children are faithfully walking & pursuing God. But oh what a gift to give this to my young sons to have in leadership of their one day families.

The three writers/editors have given a wide breadth of experience, insight, knowledge, and doctrine as we experience the WSC. Each chapter covers 1-2 Q and A of the WSC and then a very good in-depth look at the Scriptures and theology that surrounds each of the Questions and Answers. Each chapter is about 4-5 pages so the while the Scriptures and theology are strong, each chapter is short enough for a family devotion, private devotion, reflection, and a new exploration of the WSC.

The flare of each writer can be seen in the chapters with some giving more weight to some hard theology and others giving us good analogies that enlighten our understanding of the text. I personally like the Heidelberg Catechism but for good devotional reading this is more than devotional, it is good theology for everyone. It could be a great book for a small group study or outlining a sermon series. I would give the book a score of 9+ to use at the dining table, with kids at bedtime, with a Bible Study group, and then use the Scriptures throughout the week to reinforce the concepts with the family.

A nice addition to books on the WSC. I also appreciated the points in some chapters where the authors state you can get a little more depth and insight to the theology of the Q/A by reading the Answers to the same questions in the Westminster Larger Catechism...the WLC has some good extensive Answers that could prove helpful, but by-and-large this book is complete in itself for a great study.

I bought 2 books to give as gifts. Both recipients were happy to receive them. The books are beautiful hard cover editions.
