Discipleship is vital to faithful parenting. When we disciple our children, we are calling them to view Jesus as not only our guide to life but as our life itself. In this booklet we consider the role of sermons in the task of discipling children by considering how to teach our children to view sermons, prepare to hear sermons, listen to sermons, live out sermons, and weave sermons into daily life. In all our endeavors as parents, we must remember, “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it” (Ps. 127:1). We must therefore salt all our earnest efforts with earnest prayer, as we labor to pull down the benediction of our heavenly Father upon our families and homes.

About the Author

Dr. Joel Beeke is a minister of the Heritage Reformed Congregation in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is also a professor, theologian, author, as well as founder and President of Puritan Reformed Seminary. He is the editor of Puritan Reformed Journal and Banner of Sovereign Grace Truth and editorial director of Reformation Heritage Books and vice-president of the Dutch Reformed Translation Society. Joel and his wife Mary have three children and two grandchildren.

Dr. Beeke in this small pamphlet provides a concise and convincing guidance on how to lead covenant children to holiness living through sermons as a means of grace. It follows the puritan tradition, but may be considered as a quick summary.
