The Incarnation and Beyond is more than a book about Christmas. The word “incarnation” encompasses not just Jesus’ birth but his entire earthly existence as the Son of Man, his time “in the flesh,” which ended in the agony of the cross and the glory of the resurrection. Part of what makes Monod’s Christmas and Easter messages so compelling is the freshness of his approach. He places the nativity and the resurrection squarely in their broader context and challenges us to apply them in our in daily walks with Christ. Then the oft-forgotten day of Pentecost is given its rightful place as the culmination of Christ’s redemptive work. Easter and Pentecost are the “Beyond” in the title.

Authors

Adolphe Monod (1802—1856) was a beloved and courageous French pastor, a major figure in the nineteenth century Awakening. While he is still well-known among our French-speaking brothers, most English-speaking evangelicals have scarcely heard of him. A biographical sketch is included in the book.

Constance K. Walker is a mostly-retired Senior Research Scientist in nuclear physics at Duke University. She has edited and translated a number of works by Adolphe Monod and authored his Bitesize Biography for EP. She and her late husband also collaborated in writing a popular booklet on the harmony between science and the Christian faith. She is currently involved in the prayer and college-student ministries at The Church of the Good Shepherd (Durham NC; Presbyterian Church in America)

Michael A. G. Haykin Professor of Church History and Biblical Spirituality, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky

'The Incarnation and Beyond is, undoubtedly, one of the finest sermon collections that I have read, a superb anthology of solid Biblical messages on the Incarnation from Adolphe Monod, a Reformed pastor whose name is becoming increasingly familiar thanks to EP Books and Dr. Constance Walker.'

Michael A. Milton Ph.D. Presbyterian minister, author, and educator.
